Abandoned house in Wasco damaged in fire

Kern County fire crews battled a house fire in Wasco on Wednesday.

Firefighters were called out around 1:20 p.m. to Gromer Avenue and North Palm Street for a house fire.

They arrived and found a good portion of the house fully engulfed in flames, according to the Kern County Fire Department.

It took firefighters more than 20 minutes to put out the fire.

No one was inside at the time of the fire and no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Crews say the home has been known to be frequented by homeless people.

The damage to the home has been estimated to be $25,000.
