BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — An armed man who had fired several shots before entering the Bakersfield Heart Hospital late Friday afternoon was shot by officers outside the hospital.
The man, whose name was withheld, survived. He was initially taken into the Heart Hospital for treatment before being transferred to another hospital.
No officers were injured, and all hospital staff and patients are OK.
Police said they got calls shortly before 5 p.m. of the armed man. He had shot a glass door to the hospital and entered the hospital while holding at least one gun, police said. The man then allegedly pointed a gun at a hospital security officer but didn't fire.
The man walked back out of the hospital a short time later, encountered police and was shot.
A handgun and rifle were recovered.
Police didn't speak to the man's motive.
