Arvin police: Teen arrested in murder investigation

A fourth suspect has been arrested in an Arvin murder case.

The body of Jose Joel Salazar, seen here, was found last month inside his truck in an orchard.

Late last month, Arvin police announced three suspects were arrested: 27-year-old Javier Lopez, 19-year-old Ana Banos and 24-year-old Jorge Sosa.

Friday morning, police announced the arrest of a 17-year-old boy, who is accused of murder, gun crimes and gang participation.

Arvin Police Sgt. Patricia Stewart says as the investigation developed, the teenager was "named as a possible suspect." Stewart said she could not comment on how the suspect may be connected to the victim.

Search warrants related to the case have turned up 16 guns and other evidence, police said.

Eyewitness News asked if any of those weapons had been used in the murder.

"We aren't sure at this time," Sgt. Stewart said, "it's still under investigation."

When the 17-year-old suspect was arrested, Arvin Police were assisted by the U.S. Marshal's Office and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Sgt. Stewart had no specific information on why that was done.

The three suspects previously arrested are facing accessory and gang-participation charges. Though, Javier Lopez is also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Eyewitness News asked if any other arrests are possible. "I'm not allowed to give out that information at this time," Sgt. Stewart said.
