Bakersfield man indicted by federal grand jury on drug charges

A federal grand jury in Fresno returned a one-count indictment on Hacel Alfredo Alvarez, 34, of Bakersfield, on Thursday.

According to court documents, Alvarez was allegedly found in possession of 21 pounds of methamphetamine and one pound of heroin at his residence in Bakersfield.

The case was part of an investigation by the Southern Tri-County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) task force, which consists of agents from Homeland Security Investigations and Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

Alvarez’s arraignment is scheduled for Monday in federal court in Fresno.

If convicted of the allegations, Alvarez could face a mandatory minimum statutory penalty of 10 years and a maximum statutory penalty of life in prison and up to a $10 million fine.
