Bakersfield officer drags man to safety after crashes while surrounded by live power lines
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) —
Police say an officer had to drag a person to safety after a crash Wednesday while surrounded by arcing power lines.
Officers were sent to 2nd Street and Union Avenue about a two-vehicle crash. One vehicle had overturned, and one of the passengers was having difficulty breathing.
While officers were assisting people involved in that crash, a second crash took place on 2nd Street just west of Union Avenue.
The second crash involved a power pole, causing the power lines to drop into the roadway.
The people involved in the first crash were treated for minor injuries, police said. One of the drivers tried to get away, but she was caught by officers and arrested on outstanding warrants and on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident.
No one was injured in the second crash, police said.
