Bakersfield police chief discusses honoring fallen officers, connecting with the community

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – Police Chief Lyle Martin joined Eyewitness News on Wednesday morning to mark National Police Week.

Thursday, both the Bakersfield Police Department and Kern County Sheriff’s Office will hold ceremonies for fallen officers.

Martin also spoke to Eyewitness News about his efforts to boost morale within his ranks and to bridge any divides between the public and the police.

“The police are the community, and the community are the police,” he said. “We need to be a part of the community we serve.”
