BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – Police are warning people to be vigilant to avoid theft of their holiday packages.

"... this is prime season for package thieves," police posted on Facebook.

Police offered these theft-prevention tips:

  • Request delivery alerts.
  • Ask a neighbor to hold a package when you are not home.
  • Do not report a stolen package on social media. Report it directly to police.
  • Be vigilant and call your neighbor when you spot a package on their doorstep.
  • Consider selecting your workplace or the store as an alternative pickup location.
  • Require a signature for your delivered packages.
