Bakersfield police make kidnapping arrest in east Bakersfield

Bakersfield Police Department have announced the arrest of a suspect they believe was involved in an attempted kidnapping at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park in east Bakersfield.

The incident was reported to officer around 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday by the parents of a two-year-old boy.

Officers say Felicia Ascensio-Guillen, 21, attempted to pick up the child and walk away with him. The parents who were not far from the child intervened.

After a brief struggle the suspect walked away and the child was not harmed.

The Bakersfield Police Department credits the parents in this case for remaining vigilant and taking immediate action to protect their child.

Ascensio-Guillen has been arrested on several kidnapping charges.
