BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – Munsey Elementary School is asking for the community’s help recovering a stolen bench with a memorial plaque for a student who died.

Someone stole the bench from the campus off Belle Terrace and South Real Road.

The plaque honors 11-year-old Fatima Lopez, a fifth-grader who was hit by a car in 2017, according to the Bakersfield City School District.

The school took to social media this week to share surveillance photos of the thief.

“We just want the bench back as it means a lot to our staff and students,” reads a post from the school on Facebook.

The theft has been reported to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office: (661) 861-3110.
