Bakersfield teacher's aide in court for alleged sexual assault of teenager

Edward Gonzalez, a teacher's aide, appears in Kern County court in Bakersfield, Calif., May 16, 2017 on allegations he sexually assaulted a teenage boy.

A teacher's aide was arraigned in Kern County court on charges stemming from the alleged sexual assault of a teenage boy.

Edward Gonzalez, 25, faces four felony charges. He entered his not-guilty plea before a judge Tuesday.

Police Sgt. Ryan Kroeker said Gonzalez and the alleged victim, who is 15 years old, both attended a party Friday night at a vacant house in east Bakersfield. From there, Kroeker said the two went to Gonzalez's house, where the alleged assault took place.

Gonzalez works at Sierra Middle School. The alleged victim is a former student at that school.

The Bakersfield City School District has not said whether Gonzalez remains on active status or if he's been placed on leave. A spokeswoman said via email, "I can tell you he is not at any BSCD sites and the district will be taking appropriate action."
