BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – The Belle Terrace overpass is closed until spring 2020, according to the Thomas Roads Improvement Program.

The closure of this road that crosses over Highway 99 is part of the Centennial Corridor project.

The Centennial Corridor project will connect Highway 58 to the Westside Parkway, opening up east-west freeway travel in Bakersfield.

The Belle Terrace overpass is 55 years old and shorter than the current standard. It will also need to be widened to accommodate additional lanes beneath it when Hwy. 99 is widened.

The northbound Hwy. 99 exit to Wible Road/Stockdale Highway is also slated to close Nov. 14 for good.

Other notes for drivers in this area, according to TRIP:

  • In conjunction with the Belle Terrace bridge closure, all traffic will shift to the west side of Wible Road between Ming Avenue and Hwy. 58, with one lane in each direction. Traffic signals will be set to flashing red at the shopping center just north of Ming and at Belle Terrace.
  • In addition to the closure of the overpass, Belle Terrace access will be closed on the east side of Wible Road. Drivers won’t be able to enter or exit Belle Terrace at that location on Wible Road. Drivers will need to follow a posted detour through the end of this year.
