BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/FOX58) — The Bakersfield Police Department will hold a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on Friday, May 26, 2023, at an undisclosed location in city limits, between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., said officials.
Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment and other officers will be checking drivers for proper licensing, only delaying motorists only momentarily. Drug-impaired driving not only includes illegal narcotics, but many prescription drugs, marijuana, and even some over-the-counter medications, said BPD.
DUI Checkpoints are placed in areas based on crash statistics and the frequency of DUI arrests, said officials. Areas are chosen with safety considerations for the officers and the public. Drivers caught while driving impaired can expect a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses that could exceed $10,000.
Funding for this checkpoint was received from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Call 9-1-1 if you see a possible impaired driver.
