Officers Matthew Johnson and Joshua Deutinger were dispatched to the 600 block of Pacheco Road on a disturbance call that included a man with a gun.

The Bakersfield Police Department said the officers made contact with the man, and an officer-involved shooting was reported a short time after that.

The suspect, whose name was withheld, died at the scene. A gun was recovered.

Johnson and Deutinger were taken to a hospital and will be placed on routine administrative leave as the use of force is reviewed by the department.
