Cellmate suspected of killing Kern Valley State Prison inmate

UPDATE: The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said Monday that they're investigating this death as a homicide, and the victim's cellmate, Daniel Olguin, is the suspect.

Olguin, 36, is serving time out of San Bernardino County on a murder conviction.

The victim, 30-year-old Eric Moreno, was serving time for gun and gang convictions out of San Bernardino County.

DELANO, Calif. (AP) — The Kern County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of an inmate at Kern Valley State Prison.

The office says 30-year-old Eric Moreno of San Bernardino was found unresponsive in his cell on Sunday.

He was taken to Delano Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead that night.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
