A bicycle rider was hit and killed Thursday by a vehicle in Wasco.

The California Highway Patrol said a 22-year-old driver was passing another vehicle at about 80 mph when he hit the cyclist on Palm Avenue north of Gromer Avenue.

The CHP said the driver, Noe Bryan Martinez, stopped momentarily, exited his vehicle and then took off.

Martinez was later caught by a Kern County deputy, the CHP said.
