BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – Court documents obtained Monday shed light on a murder Kern County sheriff’s detectives believe took place at a home in Caliente.
Daniel Rhoads, 45, is charged with the murder of 34-year-old William Alford.
Meanwhile, detectives are looking for a woman, Susana Sanchez, because of her suspected connection to the case.
Rhoads admitted to shooting Alford, according to a Sheriff’s Office probable cause declaration.
Rhoads, talking to a Sheriff’s Office investigator, reportedly said he got into an argument with Alford, his friend, and shot him because he felt threatened. Rhoads claimed he thought Alford was armed with a weapon.
Rhoads also reportedly said he wrapped Alford’s body in a trash bag and "threw it away" - as the investigator wrote in the Sheriff's Office document - because he wanted to keep it a secret.
Detectives found blood and a bullet in Rhoads’ kitchen, consistent with his story.
