CSUB taking part in National Hazing Prevention Week

California State University, Bakersfield is participating in National Hazing Prevention Week beginning Monday.

“National Hazing Prevention Week at CSUB is a collaborative effort across many student groups and departments to educate our campus community about what hazing is and how we can prevent it. A variety of programs will be offered all week, but the prevention efforts continue year-round,” Greek Life and Student Leadership Coordinator Maureen Fillmore said in a news release from the school.

Planned as part of the week are:

  • Monday: "Haze" movie screening with debrief and discussion in the Student Union Multipurpose Room from 7:30-8 p.m.
  • Wednesday: A guest speaker will be on campus to address hazing in the Student Union Multipurpose Room from 6-8 p.m.
  • Thursday: Brown bag discussion, “Media and Hazing: Changing the Perception,” in the Stockdale Room from noon to 1 p.m.
  • Thursday: A survivor’s vigil on the Student Union Patio from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

There also will be anti-hazing workshops, roundtable discussions and challenge sessions, according to CSUB.
