Delano doctor faces state accusation of gross negligence, excessive prescribing

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – The state medical board has filed an accusation of gross negligence and excessive prescribing against a Delano physician.

Dr. Sadegh Salmassi is accused of excessively prescribing opidoids, methadone and multiple central nervous system depressants to a woman whose August 2013 death was ruled by the Fresno County coroner as acute intoxication from the combined effects of tricyclic antidepressants, methadone and zolpidem.

A 16-page accusation, filed earlier this month, outlines numerous patient visits when the doctor prescribed opioids and other drugs, along with notes of the patient’s alcohol use, frequent pain, post-traumatic stress disorder and obesity.

The doctor has requested a hearing and faces potential revocation of his license or other lesser actions.

Salmassi is an aesthetic specialist in Delano, according to his website.
