Downtown Bakersfield seeing less litter

The downtown Bakersfield area is getting some extra TLC from the Downtown Street Ambassador program.

The program supports the revitalization of downtown by employing clean-up crews.

Former Mayor Harvey Hall took over sponsorship of the program in April.

"We take individuals from the Bakersfield Homeless Center and we give them jobs, four days a week working in the downtown area, picking up litter and beautifying the downtown area," said Hall.

The group has collected around 2,714 bags of litter since he took over the sponsorship.

The program is a collaboration among the Downtown Business Association, Bakersfield Homeless Center, Garden Pathways and The Mission At Kern County.
