FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — One person was severely injured in a crash early Monday morning.
The crash happened around 6:00 a.m. on Olive Ave. at Sunnyside in southeast Fresno.
CHP says the driver was injured but was able to get out, but the passenger was pinned in and had to be cut out by firefighters.
Rescue crews used the jaws of life to extract 31-year-old Salvador Rodriguez.
He was taken to CRMC in critical condition.
The driver, 26-year-old Ryan Wiggin was also taken to CRMC with moderate injuries.
CHP says the intersection has a 2-way stop for Sunnyside only.
The driver of a big rig stopped at the stop sign and then pulled out in the path of an oncoming car.
CHP says the driver of the car may have been distracted because he hit the side of the tank trailer without braking.
CHP says they do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor.
The crash is under investigation.
