A team from East Bakersfield High School is headed to the National Finals of the "We the People" citizen and the constitution program.

They've been picked as the Warren E. Burger Class, which is an honor for students from an economically challenged school who display academic achievement and innovation.

The national "We the People" competition is April 21-24 in Washington, D.C.

The students are now raising funds for their trip. A car wash and breakfast is planned in the school parking lot 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 18, and a "Dinners to Go" event is planned for March 20. Call (661) 871-7221 for more information on the fundraisers.

"This is a once in a life time opportunity for the students of EBHS to showcase their academic excellence at the national level," East High School We the People coach James Dominguez said in a news release.
