A pair of family dogs were shot and killed, and their bodies were discovered a few miles away from their home in Tupman.

Their owner, Scott Lemmons, has no idea who would come onto his property and murder his animals.

"They are not just dogs, they are family," said Lemmons.

He discovered the dogs were missing after returning home from work Tuesday and noticing his gate lock was cut.

Lemmons said he found the dogs Wednesday morning a few miles away from his home, dead from multiple gunshots.

"Why did you take something that meant so much from me? And you destroyed it, like they were nothing," he said. "They weren't nothing."

The Kern County Sheriff's Office is investigating this incident but currently has no suspect information.
