Homeless shelter to add dozens of new beds
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) —
The Mission at Kern County announced Thursday that it will be expanding its men’s homeless shelter to help address the growing homelessness population in Bakersfield.
The Mission, in partnership with the city and the state, will add 40 more beds, as well as open a new Community Resource Center, that will offer additional services and referral to different agencies.
“The need for more assistance is so pressing right now,” Carlos Baldovinos, executive director at the Mission, said. “Local businesses and community members alike are frustrated with the lack of resources and so we plan to do as much as we can to help with this emergent problem.”
The Mission, which opened in 1952, provides shelter, food and other services for the homeless.
