BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – Ten family members were displaced in a fire that left a southwest Bakersfield home looking like a total loss.

City firefighters said the blaze started Wednesday afternoon in the garage at the home on Akers Road near White Lane, but the exact cause is unknown.

Firefighters said wood shingles on the house helped the flames spread faster.

An adjacent house sustained minor damages.

No injuries were reported.

Red Cross has put the family in a hotel for a couple of days but they still need help. The family has set up a GoFundMe.
