A Kansas man died over the weekend after crashing during a drag race at Auto Club Famoso Raceway north of Bakersfield.

Brett Henry, 50, of Wichita, struck a wall Saturday at the race, according to the Kern County coroner's office. He died the next day at a hospital.

The coroner's office hasn't ruled yet on his cause of death.

Drag racing media outlet Dragzine reports Henry was driving his Iron Mistress AA/Fuel Altered car at the NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion when the crash took place.

Jessica Hatcher, a spokeswoman for the National Hot Rod Association, released a statement that reads, in part:

"NHRA, the NHRA Motorsports Museum, Auto Club Famoso Raceway and the entire racing community extend their deepest condolences and their prayers to the participant’s family and friends. We also ask that everyone respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time."
