A man suspected in a murder nearly two years ago in Bakersfield has been apprehended in Mexico.

Gabriel Verdugo, 25, was arrested Tuesday in Mexicali after Kern County deputies received new information on his whereabouts, according to the Sheriff's Office.

In August 2015, 30-year-old Elvis Gonzalez was found shot to death at the El Escorpion Bar in south Bakersfield. Detectives determined Verdugo was responsible.

After his arrest this week, Verdugo was transported to the United States and taken into custody by Marshals. He was then transferred into the custody of the Kern County Sheriff's Office.
