A Kern County jury on Tuesday found a man guilty of carrying out a 2015 murder.

Gabriel Verdugo Jr. shot 30-year-old Elvis Garcia-Gonzalez at point-blank range during an argument at the El Escorpion Bar in south Bakersfield.

Verdugo was located and arrested in June of this year in Mexico and later brought back to Kern County by U.S. Marshals.

The Kern County District Attorney's Office said Garcia-Gonzalez was a decorated combat veteran who worked in Bakersfield and Porterville to help veterans find civilian employment.

Verdugo is set for sentencing in January and faced up to 50 years to life in prison, the DA said.
