BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — An inmate at Kern Valley State Prison was murdered Thursday morning in one of the recreational yards at the prison.
Sergio Robles was allegedly stabbed with handmade weapons by fellow inmates Brian Alatorre and Jose Ramos just after 10 a.m.
Robles suffered multiple stab wounds to his head, back and upper body. He was taken immediately to the prison infirmary, then to a local hospital, where he died at 10:53 a.m.
Robles had been in the prison since November 1999 where he was serving a life sentence with a possibility of parole for conspiracy and attempt to commit first-degree murder.
Alatorre came to KVSP in March 2018 on a life sentence with the possibility of parole for kidnap/carjacking and second-degree murder.
Ramos, 44, came to KVSP in January 2002 to serve a life sentence with the possibility of parole for attempted second-degree murder and assault with a firearm. He also received a conviction from Kings County in August 2008 for assault by a prisoner with a deadly weapon or force likely to produce great bodily injury, his third strike.
Prison officials have placed the facility on a 24-hour threat assessment to investigate the murder.
