BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – People braved the heat Thursday to stand in line outside Valley Plaza Mall to get a cheap Build-A-Bear toy.

Build-A-Bear's Pay Your Age Day caused lines so long nationwide that the retailer took to social media to announce lines would be closed: “Per local authorities, we cannot accept additional Guests at our locations due to crowds and safety concerns.”

But, a Build-A-Bear representative at the Bakersfield store told Eyewitness News around 11 a.m. that they were still letting folks get in line.
