BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – A 10-year-old Bakersfield boy has died, weeks after receiving a heart transplant.

Brayden Eidenshink “passed away peacefully” Wednesday night, according to a post Thursday morning on the Facebook page Brayden’s Brave Heart. His family has been using the page to keep the community updated on the boy’s fight to live.

“I never thought I would have to say this but Brayden is in heaven,” reads the post.

Brayden had been trying to recover following the transplant at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto.

He encountered complications, including organ failure, and had to go on life-support.

Eyewitness News first covered Brayden’s story in 2014. Even then, Brayden was on the wait list for a transplant due to multiple heart conditions.

Brayden finally got his transplant, on Oct. 10.
