A man was killed in an officer-involved shooting Thursday in eastern Kern County.

Ridgecrest police said they got a 911 call midday after the man allegedly brandished a gun on South Sunset Street.

Officers who were conducting an unrelated probation sweep, consisting of multiple agencies, responded and spotted the man.

During a pursuit, the man climbed onto the roof of a house, and officers surrounded the area.

Seven officers opened fire when the man, still on the roof, allegedly pointed his gun at them.

Ridgecrest Capt. Jed McLaughlin said six of the seven involved officers are from his department. He wouldn't provide agency information on the seventh officer.

McLaughlin said the suspect was in his 40s and believed to be from the Los Angeles area.
