Man sentenced for DUI crash that killed retired firefighter

A man was sentenced Monday to 11 years in prison, minus time served, for a crash that killed a retired Kern County firefighter.

Lorenzo Francisco Alonzo previously pleaded no contest to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury.

Melvin Eugene McLaughlin, 81, was killed in the August 2016 crash at 7th Standard Road and Golden State Highway.
