The City of McFarland was awarded $1.5 million by the California Department of Housing and Community Development to help out first-time home buyers.

In August of 2020, the HCD said they would award more than $57 Million to local public agencies and nonprofit corporations for the 2020 CalHome Program.

These funds would be given to the city so they could assist individuals with first-time home buyers deferred payment loans for down payment assistance and owner-occupied home rehabilitation loans.

The city says they will have staff begin working on program guidelines and an application process for those programs in the coming months.
