Memorial Hospital opens ER for children

The Robert A. Grimm Children’s Pavilion for Emergency Services at Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield, Calif., is seen in a still image taken from video provided by Dignity Health.

Memorial Hospital on Thursday morning opened what it says is the only dedicated pediatric emergency department between Los Angeles and Madera.

The 5,000-square-foot Robert A. Grimm Children’s Pavilion for Emergency Services will serve kids up to age 13. It's next to the hospital’s existing emergency room and features separate waiting and treatment areas tailored to children.

“Everything is designed with the child in mind,” Jenny Wilson, director of emergency services for Dignity Health Memorial Hospital, said in a news release. “We want to make it a positive experience so kids aren’t afraid or anxious.”
