Man killed in crash at mouth of Kern River canyon

UPDATE (Monday, Jan. 21, 2019): The Kern County coroner’s office has identified the driver as 47-year-old Phillip Edward Turner, of Frazier Park


BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – A man was killed in a crash at the mouth of the Kern River canyon Sunday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol said officers arrived around 1 p.m. and found the truck had rolled over the edge from Highway 178, and the driver had been ejected.

The CHP said it’s unsure what time the crash happened.

The CHP has begun setting up breaks in the traffic at the mouth of the canyon.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
