The NAACP honored Kern County's first African-American female judge, Gloria J. Cannon.

She was appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown to a judgeship in the Kern County Superior Court.

Once she completed law school, she began her career at the Kern County Public Defender's Office in 2002.

She is the 32nd judge to serve in Kern County and the sixth woman now serving.

She filled the vacancy of retired Judge Larry Errea.
