BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – A man was killed Friday morning in an officer-involved shooting at Interstate 5 and Enos Lane, on the western outskirts of Bakersfield.

Two California Highway Patrol officers responded shortly before 5 a.m. to the area because of a single-car crash, according to Kern County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Angela Monroe. The Sheriff’s Office is the investigating agency for the officer-involved shooting.

Monroe said the man claimed to have a gun, approached the officers with a hand concealed, and did not comply with the officers’ orders.

“At that time, an OIS did occur,” Monroe told reporters during a morning briefing in the field off the freeway.

She didn’t say if both CHP officers on scene fired their guns.

Neither officer was injured.

Monroe wouldn't say whether the man actually had a gun.

Anyone with information helpful to the investigation is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at (661) 861-3110.
