2 dead from head-on crash with semitruck on 7th Standard Road

UPDATE: The Kern County coroner on Thursday reported two people died in this crash and identified them as 20-year-old Hodari Toussaint Cooper Jr. and 13-year-old Hakim Isaiah Cooper, both of Martinez.

Eyewitness News has corrected the spelling of the 13-year-old boy's name after hearing from his family.


BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash on 7th Standard Road and Magnolia Avenue.

Officers said a Dodge SUV was traveling eastbound when the driver drifted into the westbound lanes, causing a head-on crash with a semitruck. One person was killed.

Three people were taken to the hospital with major injuries, according to the CHP.

The CHP said the people inside the Dodge were traveling from San Francisco.

The roadway is expected to be closed for several hours.
