Motorcycle rider dead in crash at Taft Highway, South Union Avenue

UPDATE: The Kern County coroner on Monday, Jan. 15, identified this motorcycle rider as 48-year-old Ryan Christian Valdez.


BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- A motorcycle rider was killed Saturday in a crash at Taft Highway and South Union Avenue.

The motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Union, and the truck's driver was traveling eastbound on Taft Highway. The motorcycle slammed into the left side of the truck.

The driver of the Toyota truck was not injured, the California Highway Patrol said.

The intersection is controlled by traffic lights in all directions, and the CHP said investigators are in the process of determining fault.
