Man off overpass in incident that snarled Hwy 99 traffic for hours

UPDATE: Police got the man off the overpass shortly before 2:30 p.m., and traffic should resume to normal.


UPDATE: Police said about 1:30 p.m. that 99 southbound is open with two lanes, but northbound remains completely shut down.

Law enforcement has closed both directions of Highway 99 at White Lane because of a dangerous situation involving a person on the overpass, according to the California Highway Patrol.

An Eyewitness News photographer on scene saw the person standing on the outside of the protective fencing on the overpass.

Caltrans says southbound 99 is being detoured onto Ming Avenue, and northbound traffic is being diverted at Panama Lane.
