Man suspected in series of sexual assaults is BC student, former HS football star

Brandon Robinson, left, is seen in a KBAK/KBFX file photo from his time as a football player at Centennial High School in Bakersfield, Calif. He's suspected in a series of sexual assaults, police said May 12, 2017. At right is a composite image provided by police after one of the assaults in April 2017, for which police now say Robinson is responsible.

The man arrested Thursday after an alleged sexual assault at Bakersfield College is also the suspect in past sexual assaults, including one that involved a teenager in April.

Police are accusing 19-year-old Brandon Robinson of sexually assaulting three females within the past two months. Robinson is in jail for numerous charges related to sexual assault.

Bakersfield College confirmed Robinson is enrolled as a student there. He was previously a star athlete at Centennial High School.

According to police, the latest assault happened on Thursday in a women's restroom at Bakersfield College. The school's Department of Public Safety said a student reported a suspicious man in a bathroom with a possible victim, and the school officers responded in time to interrupt the assault.

Bakersfield Police Sgt. Ryan Kroeker said Robinson is also the man depicted wearing a red hooded sweatshirt in a composite sketch handed out following the sexual assault and kidnapping of a 15-year-old girl.

In the case from April, the teen girl was on her way to school when a man with a gun approached her on Haley Street. The girl reported she was forced into a nearby alley, where she was robbed and assaulted.

Police also believe Robinson sexually assaulted a woman in March on Wenatchee Avenue.

Robinson's bail is set for over $700,000.

Anyone who can provide information helpful to the investigations is asked to call Detective Rick Wimbish at (661) 326-3809.
