Police investigate SW Bakersfield homicide

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - Police are investigating a suspected homicide in southwest Bakersfield.

A 60-year-old man's girlfriend found him dead Friday morning at a home on Hempstead Lane, near Ming Avenue and Ashe Road. The coroner's office identified him as Carl Aaron Crawford.

Police haven't commented on suspects or a motive. They also didn't say how the man died, only saying they were investigating a homicide.

A relative at the scene, Elvis Ricks, said Crawford was a correctional officer with the state and had two children who just graduated from college.

"He's a great guy, he's family oriented," Ricks said, adding that the family is not involved in any conflict or illegal activity.

"This is just a laid-back family," he said.
