Bakersfield police officers shoot suspect

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – Police officers shot a suspect Monday night in east Bakersfield.

Officers went to the 2500 block of Kentucky Street, near Mt. Vernon Avenue and Niles Street, in search of a person wanted for carjacking and an outstanding felony arrest warrant.

"During the course of their investigation, their attempts to apprehend him, an officer-involved shooting occurred," Police Sgt. Nathan McCauley said.

The suspect sustained major injuries, police said.

Both officers fired their guns. Neither officer was injured.

The officers will be placed on routine administrative leave pending a review of the shooting.

McCauley said another suspect, a woman, was arrested. She was not injured.
