Bakersfield High School is celebrating its 125th anniversary.

The school was founded on Jan. 9, 1893.

It was the first high school in the county, and students in an archiving class are working to preserve its history.

Ken Hooper is the archiving teacher at the school.

He said archiving started back in 2002, but before that the class librarians were keeping the school's history alive.

At the archiving center, there are thousands of photographs, yearbooks, literary magazines, trophies and other school memorabilia.
