BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Workers with PrimeX Farms in Wasco went on strike Thursday, saying their health was not taken seriously.
Mariana Trujillo, a worker at PrimeX Farms, shared her experience working inside the pistachio nut plant and says proper COVID-19 measures were not taken.
Trujilo says she now has Coronavirus. She says wearing masks were not mandatory while she was still working.
She said, "They gave the workers options on if they wanted us to or not and they also had us vote if we wanted to make it mandatory, which I don’t think is very professional."
Trujillo says everyone was touching the same machine to clock in and out of work and social distancing was not enforced.
Trujillo went on to say,
They should have taken action. If they wanted to protect the workers, they would have made it mandatory from the very beginning.
We reached out to PrimeX Farms and have not received a comment yet.
