The Ridgecrest Police Department arrested a man Saturday after he allegedly assaulted his mother.

Officers got a call for a possible assault around 12:30 a.m. on South Downing Street. They arrived and spoke to a woman, who claimed her son, 26-year-old Miguel Hector Mora, had confronted her about delusions he was having and then proceeded to attack her.

Mora allegedly attempted to suffocate her when she attempted to contact police. She was able to fight him off and get away in a car.

Mora returned to the scene during the investigation and tried to give officers a fake name.

He was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a controlled substance. Officers also found Mora was on post-release supervision for a previous assault with a deadly weapon conviction.

While booking Mora, he kicked another inmate in the throat, prompting officers to restrain him. While trying to restrain, him he began to punch the officers.

His bail has been set at $1.2 million.
