Downtown Bakersfield streets reopen after being closed for hours after water main broke

UPDATE (8:24 p.m., Monday, Feb. 11): The downtown streets are all open now.


UPDATE (1:35 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11): Streets remain closed.


UPDATE (10:40 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11): Eye Street between 16th and 17th remains closed. Southbound Chester at 18th is also still closed.


BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – A water main broke Monday morning in downtown Bakersfield, forcing the closure of flooded streets.

Police were called around 4:45 a.m. to 17th and Eye streets.

They’ve closed 17th and 18th streets at Chester Avenue and Eye Street.

Cal Water has responded to the area, looking for the source of the break.
