State Senate recognizes August as Valley Fever Awareness Month

FILE -- A map from the CDC shows areas where valley fever is common.

The California Senate voted Wednesday to approve a valley fever resolution authored by state Sen. Jean Fuller, of Bakersfield.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 142 passed unanimously and designates August 2016 as Valley Fever Awareness Month.

"This is a critical health issue for not only my district, but California as a whole," Fuller said in a press release.

On Saturday, local survivors and supporters held a walk to raise awareness for the disease.
