The assistant principal of McKee Middle School was arrested Monday morning on suspicion of criminal sex acts with a teenager.

Police arrived at dawn to a home on Via Bassano Drive at the Rio Bravo Country Club with an arrest warrant, but police say 53-year-old Ector Peredia at first refused to come outside.

A 4-hour standoff ensued that involved the SWAT team and evacuations of neighboring homes.

Detectives worked through the night building their case after first learning information Sunday about a possible sex crime.

Peredia surrendered about 9:30 a.m. after a "minor use of force," Sgt. Brian Holcombe said.

School officials say Peredia was hired by the Greenfield Union School District in 2000, working as a classroom teacher before moving into administration 12 years ago.

Police say the alleged victim was not a student at McKee.

Peredia is being held on a $70,000 bail.
