One of two suspects in a torture and burglary case was in Kern County court for the first time Thursday.

Amalia Lopez faces six felony counts.

She and her husband, Franco Ochoa, are accused of breaking into a woman's apartment in June, holding her hostage for several days, and harming her before setting her apartment on fire.

At one point, Ochoa allegedly attacked the victim with a sword.

The two were recently arrested in Oxnard during a spousal abuse investigation. Ochoa is still in custody in Oxnard.
